Additional Resources

Although the Firm is a solo practice, over his thirty plus years as an attorney and having served as a Trustee the Los Angeles Copyright Society and Chairperson the Entertainment Law Sections of both the Los Angeles County Bar Association and Beverly Hills Bar Association, Larry Verbit has established relationships with many attorneys and firms focusing on entertainment law practices and other specialties.

These relationships with numerous other attorneys and firms, enable our Firm to partner with and bring on additional attorneys to work with us on an as needed basis to provide our clients additional support benefitting their projects. These other attorneys are on-call for immediate entertainment transactional and production work, are engaged by Mr. Verbit on a project by project basis under their own practice’s insurance. For example, we were previously engaged for a television series requiring an attorney to travel around the world with the production. Within three hours we had three attorneys from which to choose, ready to embark on this project, and each with more than fifteen years’ experience.

Subject to availability, two of our first “go to” groups of additional support lawyers are those we have worked with in more formal relationships in past years.  We often work with Kaufman Abdel-Aal LLP and Talent Law Group. For many years Larry Verbit was of counsel to Kaufman Abdel-Aal LLP and its predecessor firm and that firm previously served as of counsel to our Firm.  Additionally, Michael (“Mikey”) Glazer of Talent Law Group previously served as Senior Counsel to our firm and was Mr. Verbit’s top student when he taught television production law.

When we do plan to bring on additional counsel to work with us we first advise the client and obtain the client’s permission.  Although a majority of our production services are rendered on a flat fee basis, to the extent the matter is billed hourly, we will also advise you of such additional counsel’s hourly rate to be paid to us and we are then responsible for paying said additional counsel.

In addition to the entertainment practice lawyers with whom we work, we have immediate access to specialists in the following fields:

Complex Corporate and Securities Matters
Complex Corporate and Tax Matters
Complex Intellectual Property Matters
Complex Labor Issues – Management Side

Having spent more than 11 years as in-house counsel, Larry Verbit gained an expertise in managing outside counsel for cost effectiveness. Unlike many firms we do not bill for the same work or for time reviewing an experienced additional counsel’s work. Thus, if one of our colleagues prepares the work we will make sure they render services in a given time frame and do not bill for multiple attorneys on the same project.  Our colleagues generally have approximately fifteen+ years of experience so you are not tossed off to a junior associate who needs to be monitored by a senior partner who bills for monitoring time.

The Firm’s principal and, when so engaged, Mikey Glazer, both have more than a decade of experience on the production side of entertainment projects before becoming lawyers. Thus, they are able to provide our clients the unique services of those who have “been there and done that” and who fully understand the practical and business needs of our clients when applying the necessary legal elements to their deals.
